The aim of this monograph is to introduce readers to selected aspects of industrial property law in African countries from the perspective of national and regional systems of industrial property protection. The monograph first focuses on national systems of selected African countries whose legislation is completely independent, as these countries are not members of any of the current regional organizations operating on the African continent. These are countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, whose law combines elements of civil law, common law, or both, and therefore they diverge in their approach to certain aspects of industrial property law. The monograph then shifts its focus from national to regional systems, which are represented by two very different approaches also with reference to the relationship between the regional and national systems of the Member States, where these two systems coexist and complement each other. Part of these regional systems is the introduction of the newly established pan-African organization, which operates throughout Africa.
