Academic English: writing essays and dissertations

This Study Guide has been compiled particularly for students whose mother tongue is not English, but who have chosen to  study in English, and for whom assessment includes written work in English. It provides students with an approach to research for academic purposes; structuring academic essays and written   assignments; preparing, presenting and validating arguments; writing introductions, conclusions and abstracts; and suggestions on layout and presentation. Whilst the Study Guide is not a writing guide, it highlights writing features of which students should be aware, and directs students to useful resources to strengthen written academic English output. For teachers, this Study Guide provides standards and rules for academic integrity.
